ABA Participation in Afghanistan’s first Renewable Energy Summit

Date: June 13-14, 2015

During June 13-14, 2015, ABA representatives including Mr. Abdul Majeed Jabarkhail, Executive Director, Mr. Najibullah Amiri Deputy Executive Director and Mr. Naveed Hadawal Member Service Coordinator participated in the Afghanistan’s first “Access to Finance” Renewable Energy Summit and Exhibition held at the Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW) in Kabul.
In this event, Mr. Jabarkhail delivered a presentation on ABA activities and importance of renewable energy and access to finance. Mr. Jabarkhail has also participated in a panel discussion on Analysis of Barriers and Financial Incentives for Renewable Energy Development and addressed the questions from the participants.
Ministry of Energy and Water’s (MEW)’s Renewable Energy Department (RED) and Afghanistan Renewable Energy Union (AREU), organized Afghanistan’s first “Access to Finance” Renewable Energy Summit and Exhibition in Kabul with the support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and in collaboration with the Indian Embassy in Afghanistan during June 13-14, 2015. The event was designed to help Afghan businesses replicate the best renewable energy solutions from the region and establish links with international partners and local financial institutions.
The summit was attended by a huge number of government dignitaries including government officials, local private businesses, senior officials from International Agencies and financial institutions representatives. The event provided a tremendous opportunity for the local Businesses, women entrepreneurs, financial Institutions, insurance companies and mobile network operators to promote and showcase their products and services at during the 2-day summit.
During the summit seven ABA member banks namely Afghanistan International bank (AIB), Afghan United Bank (AUB), Bank-e-Millie Afghan (BMA), Bakhtar Bank, Azizi Bank, The First Micro Finance Bank (FMFB) and Ghazanfar Bank took part and delivered their presentations on the products and services that their banks offer.
