ABA Contribute for promoting of Islamic Banking

According to the new surveys, there is huge demand for Islamic Banking in Afghanistan. In order to promote Islamic banking services, address prevailing challenges and improve capacity building of the Islamic bank/Window, ABA arranged banks- Da Afghanistan Bank (Central Bank) coordination meeting on February 02, 2020. The meeting was attended by Mr. Yusuf Salim DAB General Director – Islamic Banking Division, Mr. Akhond Jan Rustaqi, Deputy General Director Islamic Banking, Representative of Financial Supervision Department(FSD) DAB, Deputy CEO, Chief Islamic Banking Officers/ high officials of Banks, representatives of AIBF (Afghanistan Institute of Banking and Finance) and ABA management.

Agenda

1. Upgrade the professional capacity of Sharia Board members of commercial banks/Adviser
2. Imposition of penalties
3. DAB’s instruction/approval to Islamic bank/wing for seeking insurance policy until TAKAFUL is in place.
4. Simplification of procedures. eligibility criteria of hiring, interview, amendment to the regulation

At the beginning, Mr. Najibullah Amiri welcomed the participants by welcoming remarks. Mr. Amiri requested DAB – Islamic Banking Division support for ABA member banks on the above agenda.
The meeting was productive; Mr. Dr. Yusuf, DG-Islamic Banking DAB, stated that, DAB – Islamic Division is committed to support Islamic banking, contribute for enhancement of the capacity building of Banks Islamic banking staff as well as addressing the challenges.The above agenda was discussed in details and certain action was taken.
