Strengthening Islamic international standards within in the Islamic banking sector

In order to attract cooperation of Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) Afghanistan Banks Association (ABA) held a coordination meeting with the AAOIFI on 23 July, 2024 at Serena Hotel in Kabul.
In this meeting, Executive Director AAOIFI, banks representatives and management of Afghanistan Banks Association participated.
AAOIFI is a well-known international institution that provides Islamic banking certifications such as CIPA, CSAA and other standards, including Islamic banking trainings at the international level.
At the beginning, Najibullah Amiri, Executive Director ABA, appreciated AAOIFI and added: the demand for Islamic banking in Afghanistan as an Islamic country is high and there are potential opportunities in this field. Boosting Islamic banking in our can country will lead to prosperity of businesses, job creation and public welfare. We hope that the AAOIFI will cooperate in the following sectors of the banking sector:
- In the field of providing Islamic banking certificates such as CIPA, SCAA, etc., AAOIFI to consider a significant discount for the Afghan banks.
- AAOIFI should offer sustainable capacity building programs and trainings with discounts for banks.
- AAOIFI should consider online courses for banks. The member banks of the ABA also raised their questions and presented their suggestions to AAOIFI. The Executive Director AAOIFI expressed his gratitude to the ABA and added: We are committed to support the process of transitioning from conventional banking to Islamic banking. ABA should share their views and suggestions in writing with the AAOIFI administration, we will review them and take appropriate measures. We encourage Afghan banks to travel to Bahrain to have interaction and see the programs.
